Another follow-up question -- would you us to extend our fence so that we can maintain
our privacy? This fall, my neighbor installed the fire pit and had lawn chairs in that area
where they have been holding parties. Unfortunately, the party area has a good view of
practically our whole house (dining area, kitchen, family room and master's bedroom).

Ken,
I would like to review the study that you referred to. Although the water level
on the creek has not created problems lately, during the 12 years that I lived in
my property, water has risen so that the it reached the original fence line a few
times. When we investigated the possibility of building structures on the flood
plain, we were told not to build structures that might obstruct the flow of
debris resulting from high water levels on the creek. I am concerned then that
debris will be caught on the fences and hence create flooding problems.
Now, regarding the permit issued in 2008 for the 224 Hollywood property, the
fence was actually built in 2007 or earlier. I raised this issue with the HOA
when it was originally built. Therefore, the fence was built before the permit
was issued.
On the fire pit, I am just concerned about fire safety because the area is so
close to my trees. My neighbor historically has not cleaned his area for dried
leaves and branches. Since the fire pit is very close to my property, I am

extremely concerned.

Mr. Salcedo
In 2008, the owners of 224 and 228 Hollywood Drive submitted a flood study showing
the impacts of building a wrought iron fence at the rear of their property in the
floodplain. The study showed their would be no impact, so a Floodplain Development
Permit was approved by myself to allow the construction of a wrought iron fence in the
floodplain of 224 and 228 Hollywood Drive. The owner of 224 Hollywood Drive
pulled his fence permit on 9/18/2008. I failed to locate a permit for 228 Hollywood
Drive, so I contacted the Building Inspections Department. They will be investigating
the fence permit issue. I also mentioned the fire pit. I was informed that while
investigating the fence permit, they will also review the fire pit. I'm unsure if there are
any city regulations concerning the construction of a fire pit.
Hopefully this information helps. If you do have any additional questions, please
contact me at your convenience.

Ken,
Happy New Year!
I have a question on fire pits. My neighbor installed a fire pit just adjacent to my fence
less than 5 yards away from the wooded area along the creek behind our properties. I
live in 232 Hollywood Drive; I believe my neighbor's address is 228 Hollywood Drive.
I am concerned that having a fire pit close to a wooded area is a safety hazard. Does
Coppell have any rules about fire pit installation?
Also, when we first moved into our home about 12 years ago, we were told by the HOA
that we can't build any permanent structure on our property that lies on the flood plain.
Not only did my neighbor install a fire pit on the flood plain, but they also havea fence
and play ground installed on the edge of the creek, not to mention patio furnitures. Are

these in conformance with Coppell rules?
