NTH@C school zone
I'm a parent who drops their kid off each day at NTH@C. While my kid doesn't drive, I can see
a dangerous situation for those who do, and a possible fix.
The school zone is the same as that which used to be in effect when this was an elementary
school, I think.
At the Sandy Lake end of the zone (south end), I noticed that the flashing light is situated north
of the entrance/exit to the St. Ann's car park, the designated parking area for the students/
learners.
When the kids come out of the car park, they head across the road almost immediately i.e,
outside the school zone (at least they try). I know they should cross further down , inide the
zone, but the fact is they don't always.
Might I suggest that the flashing light be moved south to cover this entrance/exit. It would alert
motorists earlier to the possibility of pedestrian students crossing. I imagine the zone was
adequate when the building was used by younger and non-driving elementary kids. Now I
think the main area of student movement in the zone has been shifted south and the zone is
inadequate. I would like you to look into this - I know it involves some expenditure but I'm not
waiting for an accident to happen to suggest it. Please remember that even a reminder to
learners not to cross here can fall on deaf ears and these kids can be distracted at both ends
of the school day.
I would appreciate a prompt reply.
Thank you.
