The neighbors sent me something on sidewalk vs. underground utilities being an option - I thought it was an unusual option as I know something about the costs of underground utilities. If it doesn't fit budgeted dollars, so be it. I'd save a few bucks more and still encourage only one sidewalk due largely to potential tree damage. Ken, the speed bumps would slow the traffic from 45 mph to perhaps 30, where it should be. They would also probably lower the traffic level, as well, but just assigning a police officer to catch speeders might also work as well (I know you're not the guy to go to for that). Tim, Thanks for your email regarding Deforest Road.  The issue of burying the power lines along this road has been discussed for some time.  The costs associated with doing so prohibit the City from including this work in the design of the project.  The costs associated with providing a sidewalk are minimal in comparison and we attempt to provide sidewalks on both sides of residentially oriented road projects.   The inclusion of road humps might be possible although I am not sure if Deforest Road meets the requirements for their application.  I have forwarded your email to our Director of Engineering & Public Works, Ken Griffin.  He will provide the information regarding this issue. Feel free to contact me directly should you wish to discuss this further. One sidewalk on the north side is very adequate. Only one sidewalk would result in less damage and tree loss as well as I assume engineering plans would place the underground utilities underneath the sidewalk path or road. In addition, speed bumps along Deforest would also be a good idea as speeders are common at 45-50 mph on this road, a danger to all walking residents and exiting cars from the adjoining subdivisions.
