RE: South Coppell Road
Keith,
Either way on the water would work, and I do think getting it past the
storm drain is a very good idea. Regarding going all the way to WSL, I
just wanted to let you know what I saw from looking at for a few
minutes. It would not surprise me at all if there are things that I did
not see or don't know about that would rule out my observations.
Whichever way y'all decide, just let me know and we can adjust
accordingly.

Thanks Matt.
I should have known there was a good reason for stopping so far from the
intersection. I concur with your suggestion.
As long as the drainage works for both projects we should be ok.
Let me run your water suggestion by Mr. Griffin. My initial thought is
not to go all the way to the 24" but I need another opinion on it.

Keith,
(3/9/2010) Keith Marvin - RE: South Coppell RoadPage 2
I just spoke with Theressa about the interface between WSL and Coppell
Road South. We discussed their stopping point and I agree that it needs
to be as far back as possible. I anticipate a vertical configuration
like we had on Coppell Road North and having the new pavement as far
back as possible will ease the vertical transition as much as possible.
However, the traffic control during the construction of our section will
be complicated, much like Coppell Road North.
I confirmed that their drainage design included the runoff of Coppell
Road South from Sandy Lake Road. The two drop inlets should be designed
as sumps, and I suggested that they add a stub out on the west side of
the road for a future curb inlet. We should be able to remove the drop
inlet on the east side and construct a curb inlet, but the west side
drop inlet may need to remain to drain the area between the trail and
the subdivision screening wall. Therefore, a stub out will allow us to
connect a curb inlet and leave the drop inlet on the west side in place.
We discussed the proposed water line in Coppell Road South, and my
suggestion is to extend it all the way to the 24", if that is the future
intent. I believe they are going to extend it just to the north side of
the storm drain crossing, which would be within 150LF of the 24". Since
they will be shutting Coppell Road down to one-way traffic, this
connection could take place under the existing pavement without
disruption to the construction traffic. However, if that piece is left
until our project, then it will delay the construction time of the
intersection, by having to get a utility crew in there as well.
Additionally, we should not have much in the way of water work other
than adjustments on our project, and adding this piece in our project
would probably not be as economical as doing it with the rest of the 12"
line. I have not looked at the water design in much detail, so if you
decide that it is best in our project, then we can certainly address it.
If you have any questions or need to discuss any of this information,
please feel free to give me a call. Thanks and have a great day!

Matt,
Ken Roberts with Huitt Zollars is working on finalizing the plans for
South Coppell Road. The city made some comments during our latest
review that impacts the connection between this project and the West
Sandy Lake design.
Can you contact Ken at 214-871-3311 and coordinate this interface.
Thanks,
Keith

Keith,
I called Theressa Smith with Huitt Zollars this morning and left her a
message. I believe that she had emailed me when I was out over
Thanksgiving regarding this coordination. I will get with either her or
Ken to discuss the connection. Thanks and have a great day!
