We have reviewed city records specifically related to funding of Thweatt
Park. According to our records no Land and Water Conservation
Funds (Section 6(f)) were used to purchase or develop this park.
It appears that we applied for funding in 1996, however the application
was not approved.

The earliest information we have is that 3.5 acres of the park was purchased by the
city in August 1991, from Thomas J. and Katherine R. MCHale. At the same time, the
MCHale's donated 2.5 acres of drainage way, adjacent to the purchased property.
Purportedly, the site was purchased for usage as a Fire station, but that use was
obviously not carried out. The site was determined to be best used as a park and
the name given to it in November 1995, was Thweatt Park, because of the name of the
road fronting the site. we do not have record of earlier history of the site.

Im attempting to do some research on Thweatt Park (located at 101 N Coppel1 Rd), and
am having a difficult time locating any data on this park. I am trying to find out
if this park holds any historic significance, how old it is, was the land donated or
is it a memorial park? Any information that you have about Thweatt Park would be
greatly appreciated. Also, I have contacted the Parks and Recreation department,
and have received no response.
