MA1001-CS100416Intersection Work Okayed by Council Denton Tap /Sandy Lake Closure Detailed By Jean Murph The Coppell City Council Tuesday approved the first step in reconstruction of the intersec- tion of Denton Tap and Sandy Lake Roads, agreeing to close a section of Sandy Lake Road at the intersection for 30 calendar days from the beginning of work, and rerouting traffic. The purpose of the recon- struction is to replace thee brick pavers, which are failing and have contributed to a number of traffic accidents, especially when wet. The intersection will now be stamped concrete, with red stamped concrete crosswalks. Work will begin this summer, once schools are out. Sandy Lake will be closed at the intersection of Denton Tap to a distance of 144 feet west and 316 feet east, according to City Engineer Ken Griffin. Denton Tap Road will be re- duced to one lane northbound and one lane southbound while inter- section work occurs. The City may decide to disable the traffic lights and instead have a flashing yellow light at the intersec- tion to promote free - flowing traffic, Griffin said. Signage and message boards will alert motorists well in advance of the intersection "that something is going on (they) may not want to participate in," said Griffin. Detour (9itisens' Abbarate • LIVING • APRIL 16, 2010 routes and signage will also be pro- vided. Griffin also discussed placing a design in the center of the intersec- tion— concentric circles with a star in the middle. The Council also agreed to a penalty for road closure beyond 30 calendar days and a variable bonus for completion and road reopening in less than 30 calendar days. Executive Session Agenda I.
