Flood Study Review for Conditional Letter of Map Revision for River Chase
Elementary School
Enclosed with this letter please find a copy of a flood review study from Morrison
Hydrology Engineering, Inc. for the River Chase Elementary School. The school district is on
a very short time line m begin construction so that the school can open by the fall of 2000.
With a timely review by your office and any corrections made by Morrison Hydrology, this
study could be processed by the first week in June. If that happens, I have committed to go to
our Council on June 8 to request a variance to the Floodplain Management Ordinance to allow
the site work to begin.
In the restructuring of our contract with Kimley-Hom for flood study reviews, the fee
was raised and the review time was set at two weeks. You may recall that the last two studies
sent through took in excess of six weeks to review. I personally received numerous phone
calls from the developer expressing displeasure with the review time. It is imperative that the
two-week, if not shorter time frame, be met in the review of this study to stay on a timeline
that would facilitate the opening of the school next fall.
If your firm is unable to meet the contractual two-week review time, please let me
know so that the contract can be voided. The city then can begin the search for another firm to
provide timely reviews of flood studies.
If you have any questions or need any additional information please feel free to contact
me at your convenience. If not, I anticipate hearing from you no later than May 28 concerning
the results of this flood study review.
