WORK ON BETHEL ROAD TO CONTINUE
A temporary halt has been called in the Bethel Road Sanitary Sewer Project. This
is the result of the discovery of a two-foot error in the elevation of the actual sanitary
sewer in the field from the design plans. This error has been attributed to a surveying
mistake by the Consulting Engineer hired by the City.
City Engineer Ken Griffin has met numerous times over the last few weeks with
the Consulting Engineer concerning correction of this problem. As a result, Griffin
announced that 'the Consulting Engineer has agreed to absorb the cost for the removal
of approximately 3,000 linear feet of sanitary sewer pipe between Freeport Parkway and
the Bulk Postal Facility."
Griffin stated "there is no financial impact to the City, however, Bethel Road
cannot be opened west of Freeport Parkway until this problem has been corrected." The
section of Bethel Road between Denton Tap and Freeport Parkway is presently open for
traffic. Negotiations with the contractor are continuing, and a timetable for the start and
completion of the work is being formulated. Once a firm timetable is established, an
additional press release will be provided. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this
has caused our citizens. ###
PRESS R~I.EASE
Near the completion of the Bethel Road Sanitary Sewer Project, it was discovered that there was
approximately a 2 foot error in the elevation of the sanitary sewer from the design plans and the
actual field conditions. This error has been attributed to a surveying mistake by the Consulting
Engineer hired by the City. Over the last few weeks there have been numerous meetings with
the Consulting Engineer concerning correction of this problem. To date, the Consulting
Engineer has agreed to absorb the cost for the removal of approximately 3,000 linear feet of
sanitary sewer pipe between Freeport Parkway and the Bulk Postal Facility. This additional
work will not have a financial impact on the City of Coppell. While there is no financial impact
to the City, obviously Bethel Road cannot be opened west of Freeport Parkway until this
problem has been corrected. However, the section of Bethel Road between Denton Tap and
Freeport Parkway is now open for traffic. There is ongoing negotiation with the contractor and
a timetable for the start and completion of the work has not been established. Once a timetable
has been established, an additional press release will be provided.
