The District said all phone services would be down from July 8 at 3:00 p.m. through Sunday, July 11, with the fol- lowing initial areas functional on Monday, July 12: Vonita White Administration Build- ing, Roy C. Brock Center, Service Center, CHS admin- istrative offices and summer school classrooms, New Tech administrative offices, and Wilson Elementary summer school classrooms. see CISD on page 12 rtt�exts' VOLUME XXVI, NO. 28 Sandy Lake, Denton Tap Intersection Opens Other Projects Underway, In Design Phase By Jane Moore No more cutting through parking lots and meandering down residential streets the in- tersection at Sandy Lake -- and Denton Tap Roads opened July 2, complete with a fancy new star in the middle. . Contractors finished five days early on the project, which included removal of brick pav- ers and replacement with lower- maintenance stamped concrete. The City added some flare to the project with the addition of the star, representing the star in the Coppell logo. Other .City construction projects underway include: -Reconstruction of Bethel Road to Penfolds Lane, includ- ing reconstruction of the bridge over Grapevine Creek. The see PROJECT on page 15 Cars move through the inter- section at Denton Tap and Sandy Lake, which was re- cently repaved with a star de- sign in its center. PROJECT from page 1 project began in June and the road will be closed for up to five months. It includes intersection and signal improvements at Denton Tap, drainage improve- ment and new pavement. • Traffic signal installation at Riverchase Drive and East Sandy Lake Road began in June, and estimated time for comple- tion is late October. • Southwestern Boulevard construction is almost com- pleted, and the road is open, with only some cleanup to be com- pleted. There are also several projects in the design phase, in- cluding widening West Sandy Lake Road from North Coppell to Denton Tap Roads. The ex- isting asphalt two -lane road will be a four -lane divided roadway with improved drainage. The City also plans to im- prove Deforest Road from MacArthur to Windsor Estates, adding a sidewalk on the north side and storm drainage improve- ments. Improvements are also in the design and planning phase for the Old Coppell area, including reconstruction of the existing two -lane asphalt on Bethel from Penfolds Lane, streetscape im- provements in the historic down- town area, storm drainage im- provements and replacement of water lines. The project will also include Coppell Road from Bethel to Cooper Lane. The City also plans to widen Freeport Parkway from Ruby Road to Sandy Lake and replace the existing bridge over Cotton- wood Creek.
