Heartz is a 2 lane undivided roadway. The paving width is about 44 feet, which is wide for a 2 lane
road. Without going into great detail, the city entered into a contract in 1982 to acquire land that now
includes Andy Brown Park and Town Center; however, a portion of that contract also included
restrictions on various street widths. The contract required Heartz to be built 44 feet wide. It was
anticipated at that time that a 4 lane road would be needed to handle traffic in this area. I came here in
1991 and the property around Heartz was not developed as dense as was anticipated in the early 80's.
We have looked at Heartz and we are currently working on a plan that would reconfigure parts of the
road that would clearly show that there is only one lane in each direction. Until the plans are complete
and funding has been secured, I will have signs installed that state Heartz Road is one lane in each
direction. Hopefully this will resolve confusion over the number of lanes on Heartz Road.

How many lanes is Heartz road along side Town Center and the library? Is it 2 lanes or 4
lanes? I know it is broad with no parking posted, but how many lanes? Perhaps it should be
marked more clearly? I have seen people driving down the middle and I have seen cars
passing other cars. It is ambiguous and thus dangerous.
Also, could you please post the speed limit closer to the ends, especially near Sandy Lake?
A lot of people really like to barrel down the hill. Perhaps it should be painted on the road,
along with the lane designation.
