Mortar Color Gray Mortar
Wall Cap Top of wall to have defined 5" manicured cap ( +/- 1 "). Solid stone or multi -piece is
acceptable.
Gravel Pocket Continuous Gravel pocket with 3" weep holes every 8' to 10' o.c. Gravel
backfill to extend from weep hole to elevation 12" below finished grade behind wall and
completely wrap gravel backfill (ie ... top, back, and bottom) with filter fabric — Typar 3201 or
comparable.
Engineering Complete Structural Engineering Design by a Licensed Professional Engineer
Permits Contractor to provide all retaining wall permits and periodic inspections by the
structural engineer of record, followed by a final letter of inspection.

installation, contractor to install 4" sleeves at 8' o.c. Sleeves to be 4 "dia. x 18" long and 3' long
- #3 Rebar (6 count) to be installed at each sleeve. Steel to be installed at 6" o.c. (Vertical) and
centered on each sleeve (horizontal). Contractor to provide unit cost for sleeve installation.
Backfill Contractor to backfill retaining wall with continuous gravel pocket as defined above.
Gravel pocket should be minimum 6" to 12" wide on all walls under 4' tall (wall height assumes
elevation from sub -grade to top of wall). Walls over 4' in height should have minimum 12" to
18" gravel pocket. Taller walls subject to increased gravel pocket dimensions in order to
alleviate hydrostatic pressure build -up and decrease active / passive pressure on the back of the
wall.
Surcharge Any walls within equal distance to wall height of existing structure to be designed
for surcharge. For example: a 6' tall wall located within 6' of future house or Firelane must be
designed for Firelane surcharge which should increase wall dimensions a minimum 30 %.
Footin s: All retaining walls should have minimum 9" footings below sub - grade. Structural
design is the responsibility of the structural engineer of record.
Warranty Contractor to provide a (1) Year on all walls constructed against structural defects
