Re: Hunterwood Park Improvements / Project D08710
N Report of 04 -27 -10 Site Inspection
L
As you are aware, a final inspection of the rock riprap and gabion installation was performed on April
27, 2010. The observations were as follows:
LIM
M 1. The upper row gabions at Area #2 should be tapered at the ends per plan.
L
2. The placement of the rock riprap at the top of slope at Area #2 should be corrected. The top
Q edge of the riprap is projecting above the existing ground. It appears to have been laid on top
L of ground rather than properly excavated and socketed in so that the top of the rock layer is in
V plane (i.e., flush) with the natural ground surface. With the current placement, the upper
U) edge of rock would be washed away during an overtopping storm event. Moreover, the
%:t H projecting rocks would be inviting to vandalism and could be toppled into the creek by kids at
the park. To correct this, the upper edge of rock should be removed to allow excavation of
.m
v soil for the 18 inch minimum layer thickness and the rock should be replaced.
0 3. The placement of the rock riprap at the upstream limits of Area #1 should be corrected. The
U) portion of rock on slope appears to have been dumped rather than manipulated and placed so
= that the rock is in plane with the slope. The rocks that are dislodged should be removed and
worked into the slope to achieve a planar surface.
4. Some protruding cut wires were observed in the gabions. All gabions at both areas should be
43 carefully inspected and any protruding wires should be tuned into the gabions.
5. End to end gabion connection needs to be provided per specifications.
6. Excess geotextile should be trimmed along all gabion and rock riprap edges.
