Subject: Fence on Denton Tap
The City is reviewing several alternatives to create a safer crossing of Denton Tap at Town Center.
Currently, pedestrians cross the street all up and down Denton Tap looking for breaks in traffic.
The City is attempting to force pedestrians to cross at the Town Center crosswalk by placing a
fence in the median of Denton Tap. The fence would prevent jaywalking in this area.
Attached is an exhibit showing a general location of a proposed 5 foot tall decorative metal fence.
The fence would have about a 1 foot mow strip under it. Because the City maintains the median,
we are attempting to keep about 5 feet on both sides of the fence. This is the width of our smallest
mower. Also, the fence would mender as necessary to avoid trees and light poles.
The total length of fence is about 700 feet. I need an estimate on the installation cost of the fence
and mow strip. Also, if you are not interested in this work, please let me know so I can request an
estimate from firms outside of Coppell.
I hope to present this information to Council on November 14th, so any help in a quick response
would be appreciated.
