Mr. Mayo returned my call today concerning the placement of a water line in the existing sewer easement. Mr. Mayo stated that he would
provide the water line easement, which will be contained within the existing sewer easement, for the sum of $70,000. Yes, that's $70,000.
I told Mr. Mayo that it was not a prudent use of taxpayer dollars to pay $70,000 for an easement on top of an existing easement. The
existing easement already encumbers his property and limits the use of the easement area.
I told Mr. Mayo that I would retain the services of an appraiser to determine the value of the easement. Once I have that value, I will make
another offer to Mr. Mayo. If he rejects that offer, then we will proceed with condemnation to obtain the water line easement, which again,
will be contained within the existing sewer easement.
