TR1001-CS100512 10,01 T H E • C 1 T Y • O F COPPELL T „.„. A c 9 A 8 6 MEMORANDUM TO: Clay Phillips, City Manager FROM: Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., Director of Engineering/Public Works Y-1 DATE: May 12, 2010 REF: Installation of "No Left - Turn” signs on Belt Line Road at the Hackberry Street intersection. For some time, there has been discussion in regards to a hooded left at the above mentioned intersection. We have received multiple complaints that the traffic heading west bound is delayed due to traffic turning left onto Belt Line Road. This delay has caused many motorists, trying to turn right onto Belt Line Road, to jump the curb and cut across the right -of -way. In an effort to protect motorists on Belt Line Road, my recommendation is that "No Left -Turn" signs be installed for westbound traffic on Hackberry Road. Southbound Belt Line Road motorists will still be allowed to turn left onto Hackberry Road. Concurrently with this, we are designing a modified street approval to physically prevent motorists from turning left. This is in lieu of the hooded left. The street modification will happen this summer. In accordance with the City of Coppell Code of Ordinances, Article 8 -2, Traffic Control Devices, Section 8 -2 -10, Duty to erect, I will be installing signs to prohibit Left -Turn movements from Hackbeny onto Belt Line Road.
