Re: City of Coppell
Addition of Pump Number 4 to the Village Parkway Pump Station
Dear Mr. Dake:
We are in receipt of your fax cover sheet dated February 28, 2000 in which you make recommendation for
corrections to the suction piping mis-alignment for pump number 4 and your letter dated March 10, 2000
requesting compensation for the described work. From our field observations, the suction piping appears to
be out for alignment by as much as 1-inch in the vertical direction. You have indicated you believe this is
primarily due to the existing suction header flange being "out of level". We understand your approach to
correct this condition is to re-adjust the upper flange on the new 90-degree bend in order to bring the suction
piping together at the coupling.
Based on our observations, we believe that in addition to the existing flange possibly being out of level, that
the new 90-degree bend is either too tall, not square, or both. Therefore, on behalf of the City of Coppell, you
are hereby directed to remove the 90-degree bend and make the necessary corrections and adjustment to the
lower flange of the bend. This will require careful coordination with the City of Coppell for the shut down of
the pump station and will most likely require the re-installation of the 30-inch blind flange while the
adjustments are being made. As we have indicated previously, the City will not be able to shut the pump
station down for extended periods of time nor during times of peak demand use.
In response to your request for compensation in the amount of $840 for the above described work, it is the
contractors responsibility to field measure and verify all pipe fitting work prior to fabrication and installation
of the project piping. This includes verifying the condition, orientation and location of the existing pipes and
fittings. Therefore no additional compensation will be provided for the work necessary to correct the piping
alignment.
