Dear Larry,
It has been brought to my attention that the issue of embedment
compaction testing is being required on the subject project.
Upon review of the N.C.T.C.O.G. Specification Item No. 6.2.9.
"Backfill" for underground conduit construction and Standard
Detail Construction Detail Sheet SD-8, There is a requirement
for the embedment compaction, however based on the attached
letter from Louis L. Hargis, P. E. (License No. 25313), Geo-
Technique, Inc. a geotechnical laboratory which has extensive
experience in Coppell, the embedment is rarely tested at this
fill level.
As a result of this inquiry, I conclude that provided adequate
inspection is insuredr guidelines for testing along the
recommendations of Geo-Technique, Inc. and bonded contractors
are selected, I do not believe that a better installation
procedure is currently available to not only achieve compaction,
but also to protect the pipe from being crushed.
