MEMORANDUM
TO: Alan D. Ratliff, City Manager
FROM: Russell R. Doyle,~.E., City Engineer
RE: CONSTRUCTION OFPARKWAY BOULEVARD -
HALF/STREET EAST OF TOWN CENTER
RECOMMENDATION:
Retain DeShazo, Starek and Tang, Engineers/Planners to take existing
design/construction drawings, provide verification and other surveying
services to engineers, and complete design drawings and construction
documents for bidding purposes, for fees not to exceed $19,002.00.
BACKGROUND:
On February 9, 1988, the City Council approved funding for the
construction of the leaveout half street on Parkway Boulevard, just east
of Town Center. Please refer to the attached Capital Improvement Program
(CIP) work sheet, and minutes to the February 9, 1988 City Council meeting.
The attached proposal covers Phase A and Phase B engineering services
needed to complete the design, prepare construction documents and assist
the City Engineer in the bidding process. Bids will be taken and we will
return to the City Council to receive approval of the lowest qualified
bidder.
Depending upon the bids received, the project could remain within the
budget, or may not. We anticipate, due to current economic conditions,
that we should be able to complete the project within the current budget,
which is $128,700.00. Current estimate costs, as presented by DeShazo,
Starek and Tang, are:
$ 9,100 Phase A - Engineering Design Completion
9,900 Phase B - Engineering, Bidding & Contract Administration
138,858 Estimated Construction Costs
$157,860 TOTAL
If the construction bid comes in at $119,698 or lower, then we will remain
within the budgeted funding. We anticipate that that will be the case.
If not, then we will either have to recommend rejection of all bids, or
provide other needed funding to award the contract. There is no other
funding currently identified to be available.
Please let me know if you need any other information. Thank you.
