PURPOSE - The purpose of this report is to provide the necessary data on proposed improvements to Southwestern Drive Bridge over Grapevine Creek in Coppell, Texas, in order to obtain approval of the City of Coppell in accordance with the City's Flood Plain Management - Ordinance. Grapevine Creek is a tributary of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. The creek enters the City of Coppell in the southeastern corner of the city under 1-635 and flows in an easterly direction for 6.0 miles along the southern border of the city to its confluence with the Elm Fork. The study area which is the focus of this report is located in the upper reaches of Grapevine Creel upstream of the St. Louis & Southwestern Railroad and downstream of Freeport Parkway (See Figure 1 for vicinity map). II. PROCEDURES _ A. Hydrology-The discharges (2 and 100 year frequencies) used in this study are from the City of Coppell '2Master Drainage Plan" performed by Kimley-Horn and Associates in January of 1990. The discharges are based upon fully-developed land uses in - accordance with the City's Flood Plain Ordinance. B. Hydraulics-The Corps of Engineers' HEC-2 computer program was utilized to Perform - the required hydraulic analysis since the original "Master Drainage Plan" was based upon an HEC-2 analysis. Two computer models were utilized and printouts from each are included in this report. 1. Existing Conditions Model (Appendix A) -- This is a truncated version of the City of Coppell's "Master Drainage Plan" model as developed by Kimley-Horn and - Associates and modified by Albert H. Halff Associates for the "City-Wide Storm Water Management Study." This model represents existing channel conditions and utilizes the fully-developed 2 and 100 year frequency floods. The water surface -' profiles for this rnn are displayed in Figure 2. 2. Proposed Improvements Model (Appendix B) -- This is the Existing Conditions - model altered to reflect the proposed Southwestern Drive Bridge. The water surface profiles for this run are displayed in Figure 3. III. DESCRIPTION OF IMPROVEMENTS The proposed improvements consist of the construction of two new bridges at Southwestern Boulevard over Grapevine Creek with concrete rip-rap on the _ embankments 50' upstream and downstream of the proposed structures. The bridges themselves have earthen bottoms, 35' in width, with 3:1 side slopes. The side slopes are concrete lined. Each bridge is approximately 32 feet wide with 12 feet between - the two structures. IV. RESULTS Table 1 shows the results of the various HEC-2 runs. It contains a listing of the resultant 100-year water surface elevations at various cross-sections for each of the - models. The proposed design for the Southwestern bridges complies with the City of Coppell's requirements concerning non-erosive velocities and no allowable water surface rise. As mentioned above, Figure 4 shows the resulting impact of the improvements on the flood plain. Figures 2 and 3 show the water surface profiles for the Existing Conditions and the proposed improvements, respectively, and the various _ appendices contain detailed information on each of the hydraulic models.
