PA9701-CS 961218VIA FACSIMn~E MEMORANDUM Date: To: From~ Subject: December 18, 1996 Mayor and City Coun~ Jim Witt, City MariaS d le oo Mid Sch l West Paving PrOject During the past two months, Mike Martin of our Eng!nectin~ Department has met with representatives of Dallas County to ascertain the cost of paving Middle School West parking and roadway facilffies that serve both the School District, the Coppell Baseball Association, and Coppall Football Association. We received from Dallas County an estimate of approximately $60,563 to complete the project. This would include paving all existin~ roadways presently desi~matod as such by the School District and the City, as well as the major parkin~ lots aajacent to Field one, the bus parking area, and the pull-in parking located on the south side of the CMS West baseball complex. The School district's portion of this would be approximately $28,722 with the City responsible for $31,841. The quality of asphalt would not be the same as Andy Brown West. It will be a lower grade, but one that the County has used successfully for a parking facility in downtown Dallas across the street from the Frank Crowicy Justice Center. ~ The City Engineering staff and I, as well as Buddy Echols, have visited this s~t~ on two occasions. We are comfortable that it will provide us the durability n__ee~_ed for the present traffic loads at CMS West, and if it does fail it can be easily tq~dred. I would appreciate your support in authorizing us to enter into an interlocal agreement with both the School District and the County to complete this project in as expedient a ~ as possible in tima for the spring baseball season at CMS West. ff I receive no objections, I will authorize the Engineering staff to procced with ncgothtious with the County, and also contact CISD to assure them of our willingness to participate. ff you have any concerns, please advise no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, December 23. The funds for this will come out of the General Fund undesignatcd fund balance.
