Re: Moisture Evaluation No. 1
Wagon Wheel Park
Coppell, Texas
HBC Project No. 94001043
Gentlemen:
HBC Engineering, Inc. (HBC) has completed its first evaluation of moisture levels achieved by water
pressure injection at the above referenced site. The concession area was injected with 4 passes of
water and the two ancillary building areas were injected with 5 passes of water prior to this evaluation.
HBC personnel observed the injection process on a full -time basis.
A total of 6 borings were drilled on February 28, 2000. Each boring was continuously sampled to a
depth of 10 feet with thin - walled tubes. The samples were extruded, logged, sealed, and packaged
at the site for transportation to the laboratory. In the laboratory, moisture content and hand
penetrometer readings were determined on one -foot intervals.
A diagram depicting the boring locations is attached. Laboratory data is provided on the attached
Summary of Laboratory Tests.
A review of the moisture content determinations and hand penetrometer tests indicates that the
moisture contents across the concession pad are significantly below the desired moisture levels.
Borings 5 and 6 for the ancillary buildings contained significant amounts of sands and clayey sands.
In these areas, it is NBC's recommendation that the select fill be placed as soon as possible to
minimize the loss of moisture in the soils prior to placement of the slab.
However, in the concession area, it is HBC's recommendation that the building pad be retested after
receiving two additional water injections.
Please contact us if there are any questions concerning the test results or recommendations.
Sincerely,
HBC ENGINEERING, INC.
