Re: State Highway 121 from Tarrant/Dallas County Line to Denton Creek
(Control: 0364-002-217, 0364-03-064)
Dear Mr. Blaine:
This letter is written as a follow-up to your previous letter requesting that the Cities of Grapevine and
Coppell coordinate and provide a definite plan for proposed grade separating crossings on S.H. 121. I
have reviewed our files concerning this portion of S.H. 121 and attached to this letter is a copy of the
November 3, 1989 letter from Alan D. Ratliff that addresses the grade separated crossings.
It is my understanding that both the Cities of Grapevine and Coppell thoroughfare plans are basically
in agreement in regards to the location of thoroughfares that cross S.H. 121. In reviewing the
schematic for S.H. 121, my concern is that, under the current configuration, northbound traffic only
has one exit ramp off of S.H. 121 north of Bethel Road. That one exit ramp has to service Sandy
Lake (Thweatt Rd.), Royal Lane, Freeport Pkwy. and Parkway Blvd. The limited access into Coppell
from the west, off of S.H. 121, could create some confusion for motorists unfamiliar with entering the
City off of S.H. 121.
By virtue of this letter, I am requesting that the Texas Department of Transportation reevaluate north
bound traffic on S.H. 121 to determine if an additional exit ramp can be provided that would become
the primary exit ramp for Freeport Parkway and Parkway Blvd.
If you should have any questions concerning this request please feel free to contact me at your
convenience.
Sincerely,
Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E.
