Box 531196 Grand Prairie, Texas 75053-1196 Re: TRA Line East Coppell Dear Mr. Cyrus: Recently, there was an overflow of sewage near the Riverchase Golf Course that required a cleanup by TRA. This was a result of a manhole lid being displaced during the backup of sewage in a rain event. It is my understanding that TRA completed the cleanup and in the process rebolted the manhole lid to ensure that it would not be displaced during any subsequent storm events with sewage backing up. During our last conversation about the proposed parallel line it was mentioned that the location for the metering station had been resolved and would be placed on the east side of the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in Carrollton. At this time, I am unsure of the status and the time table for construction of the additional sanitary sewer line that would relieve the pressure off of the existing TRA line and prevent sewage backup into the system. The purpose of this letter is to request that TRA unbolt the sanitary sewer manhole lid and possibly construct some type of containment area for sewage to overflow. The problem with the current situation is that because sewage cannot be relieved from the TRA manhole near the golf course there is a very strong possibility of sewage backing up into the homes in the Riverchase area. The manholes near the Riverchase area are now being filled with sewage and the City has a real concern that the backup will continue and cause the sewage to overflow into homes in the Riverchase area. Obviously, neither the City nor TRA would like to face the prospect of cleaning up homes that have had overflow of sewage. The backup is also affecting our pumping at the Sandy Lake Pump Station. It is my opinion, that a far better solution would be to construct some type of containment area. I realize that during the period prior to the construction of the new sewer line that there could be times when there will be overflowing sewage that would need to be cleaned up by TRA. I would appreciate a call from you to discuss this further at (972) 304-3679. There may be other steps taken by TRA to alleviate this problem short of allowing sewage to overflow into the golf course area. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to discuss this matter so that a solution agreeable to both parties can be arrived at during the interim period prior to the construction of the new line.
