Brick Paver Replacement
Denton Tap/Belt Line Intersection To Temporarily Close
The City's Engineering Department is preparing for reconstruction of the intersection of Belt Line and Denton
Tap Roads. This project will include the replacement of the intersection’s brick pavers with stamped concrete
pavement. Anticipated start date is on or around June 6.
In order to remove and replace the pavers at the intersection of Belt Line Road/Denton Tap Road/Southwestern
Blvd., contractors will need to temporarily close various lanes of traffic in all directions to allow for construction. At
least one lane of traffic will be allowed north and south on Denton Tap Road/Belt Line Road at all times.
The contractor will maintain one lane northbound and one lane southbound on Denton Tap Road. Depending
upon the weather, the Engineering Department anticipates that this intersection can be reconstructed within 30 calendar
days. The contract will include an incentive/disincentive within the bid documents specifically related to the time of the
road closure. Once the closure begins the contractor will have 30 calendar days to re-establish all lanes of traffic
through the intersection. Drivers will soon see message boards and signage along Denton Tap and Belt Line Roads
informing the traveling public about the scheduled closure.
Vehicles traveling southbound on Denton Tap seeking access to East Belt Line will be detoured west on Bethel
Road, south on S. Coppell Rd., then west on Southwestern Blvd., south on Freeport Parkway, and east on Airline Dr.,
north on Denton Tap to a temporary signal light at Sanders Loop.
Vehicles traveling northbound on Denton Tap seeking access to E. Belt Line will be detoured at Sanders Loop
and up to E. Belt Line Rd. Vehicles traveling northbound on Denton Tap, seeking access to Southwestern Blvd. will be
detoured at Airline Dr.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during construction.
Please note that Texas Transportation Code states the following:
Sec. 545.423. CROSSING PROPERTY. (a) An operator may not cross a sidewalk or drive through a driveway,
parking lot, or business or residential entrance without stopping the vehicle. (b) An operator may not cross or drive in or
on a sidewalk, driveway, parking lot, or business or residential entrance at an intersection to turn right or left from one
highway to another highway.
For the safety of the people and vehicles in the businesses at this intersection, motorists should not cut through
parking lots to gain access to Denton Tap Rd. The Coppell Police Department will monitor this area and enforce the
law.
