RE: Sidewalk Replacement Program
Dear Ms Tobin:
This letter is written as a follow -up to our meeting of April 4, 2007 in which you inquired about the
process to have a sidewalk repaired at 214 Willingham Drive. During our conversation, you were
advised that sidewalk repairs are placed on a yearly list and then rated 1, 2 or 3. They are then
repaired in the order in which they are placed on the list during our yearly Sidewalk Replacement
Program. You stated that there was a sidewalk separation at your home of several inches and that
for safety purposes you had painted the separation green so that people would not trip over it.
I stated that we would have someone look at the sidewalk and if the "toe stub" was considered a
hazard we would provide an asphalt ramp as a temporary repair until such times at the section of
sidewalk could be replaced.
However, upon investigation of this sidewalk, it was noted that the separation of the sidewalk was
on what is commonly referred to as a "lead walk" to the house. The "lead walk" goes from the city's
sidewalk up to the front door of most homes. That portion of the sidewalk is a private sidewalk and
the homeowner is responsible for the repairs. The city only repairs the sidewalk adjacent to the
street running parallel to the street. Because the location of the separated sidewalk on your "lead
walk" is on private property, the City of Coppell will not be adding it to the sidewalk list and will
not be repairing it under our Sidewalk Replacement Program.
If you wish to have it repaired, you should contact a contractor of your choice or you can make
contact with the city's contractor (Estrada Concrete at 469 - 877 -6635) to make arrangements for the
sidewalk to be repaired on your private property at your cost.
I am sorry for any confusion concerning this repair, however; during the course of our conservation
I was led to believe that the repair was on the city's sidewalk, adjacent to the street.
