Pipe embedment is sand where you are not under the street.
The street crossing can be done by bore or by open cut. If you bore the street, steel casing will be required. If you open
cut the street flowable fill is required per the appropriate detail.
We will leave it up to the contractor how to cross the street. We will require that the successful contractor follow the
appropriate detail for the installation of their choosing.

Hi Jerod,
I wanted to see if you could clarify a couple of things about the Water Line Install project that is bidding tomorrow.
1. Steel Encasement Pipe - is it required?
2. Water Main Embedment: In detail #3030 - Water Main Embedment it shows sand embedment but in detail #3070 -
Concrete Pavement Replacement, it shows flowable fill around the pipe. We wanted to clarify that it was sand to be used
and not flowable fill.
Thanks for your help!
