Subject: Sandy Lake Road Failure
We experienced a failure in the westbound lanes of Sandy Lake Road last night. A section approximately 80 feet by 12 feet
sunk 2-4 inches. Portions of this area had previously been repaired, and were identified to be studied further by our
geotechinal engineering firm.
Our Public Works department erected barricades to close the failed lane last night. This lane will likely remain closed for the
next week while we make the necessary repairs.
Our street and alley repair contractor will begin removing the failed pavement this afternoon. We will be meeting with the
geotechnical engineer in the morning to investigate the cause of the failure, and see if the extent of the failure is limited to
the visible area, or if there is a problem that extends beyond what's visible.
I'll keep you posted on the status of the repair, and when we can expect to reopen this lane to traffic.
