Keith >>> John Elias 5/20/2010 1:37 PM >>> Keith, Can you share this email with Larry Davis? The well drilling contractor, Larry, and myself had met on site this week to discuss how to make the connection of the new water line to the manhole at the pond. Larry said it should be done similar to the existing water main connection . I discussed this connection with the engineer that designed the project, below is his recommendation. Unless you tell me otherwise, I'm going to go with the engineer. Call me if you want to discuss. I don't have a problem going over the top with the connection; however, I would recommend just punching the pipe through the top without the gap/screen. I believe the line coming in the top now is the city water supply line, which has a meter, valve, and air gap screen cover. The other pipe is an air vent for the manhole. First, I don't think you really have room to install another screen gap like the one that is there. Second, this well will discharge 150gpm to fill the manhole, and with no way to control the flow you will have a cone effect on the discharge that might cause some of the flow to just fall on top of the manhole and runoff. Since the manhole is vented, and the screen opening is also providing additional venting I don't see the need for another air gap. Also, we have a double check valve back at the well, so I am not concerned about any backflow into the well. We really shouldn't have any issue with freezing, but I did ask Blake to wrap the pipe above ground at a minimum. Chad A. Pendley, P.E.
