Subject: Bethel - Penfolds Median Electrical Update
CC: "Tery Chapman" <teryc@JRJPaving.com>
Gentlemen:
On Friday, Mels Electric was on site to begin installation of electrical to median. Mels installed a junction box on
west side of Penfolds connected to existing ¾” conduit and ran ¾” conduit from west side junction box to center
median and installed a junction box in the center median of Penfolds. The west side ¾” conduit that was
existing had 12 wires in it so Mels ran 12 new wires from west side junction box to center median junction box.
Mels also ran ¾” conduit from center median to east side of Penfolds back of curb area. Due to not having a
locator on Friday, the conduit was stopped at the east side BOC.
On Saturday, Mels Electric was on site with locator and from the existing plug-in/above ground box located line
to a buried junction box. From the buried junction box, they continued to locate the existing electrical line until
just east of sidewalk area, where they could not find any more signal. Mels dug up this area and found the
existing conduit and wiring. Due to the junction box being approximately 15’ further to the east of the found
conduit location, Mels went back to the buried junction box area and ran new ¾ “ conduit from this location to
the BOC location where they stopped on Friday. The buried junction box had 8 wires in it, but only 2 wires were
connected. Also, per Mels, it does not meet the electrical code to have a buried junction box, so they installed a
new junction box at this east side location in the flower bed area. Since there were 8 wires coming into the
previously buried junction box, Mels ran 8 new wires from newly installed east side junction box in flower bed to
the center median junction box. Mels also connected the 2 wires that were connected in the junction to 2 of the
8 new wires running to the center median junction box. Per my discussion with Mels, the 2 connected wires
have 120 volts each. Power has been restored to the median area. Since work is to be performed in the median
there were no connections made from the center median to the west side of road, but if connections made to
wiring, there will be power all the way across the street area.
I have spoken to Keith, Joe, Marty, and Tery, regarding the above mentioned, today and have told all that I
would email the work I spoke of in email form today. I hope this helps in this matter. JRJ would like to be able
to get a check for $225, made out to Mels Electric, for the 4” conduit and a letter from the Reserve showing all
work has been completed.
Thank you,
Dean Dumke
