Ken--
Please be assured that our intent is to make the road reconstruction as positive and good for everyone affected
as it can possibly be, including the City. You had mentioned that signs would be made and that they would
probably be plain signs with black lettering listing the businesses, unless we came up with new suggestions. That
has been our main focus. We know how willing you have been to meet with groups that will be affected by road
work, and I had asked you if it would help if some of the affected groups got together to pool their questions and
suggestions, and that is why we got together.
I will call you today and try to visit by phone.
Thanks,
Jean Murph

Jean
We anticipate advertising for bids on the construction in late August. I hope the task force hasn't set their sights
too high on their involvement in the project. You and I had discussed getting together to make sure the locations
of our detour signs addressed concerns of the downtown merchants. You also mentioned that you were working
with someone on "branding" the old town with some type of logo. I mentioned that if there was a logo created that
we could probably include it on our detour signs. No additional money has been included in the project budget for
creating a "branding" or marketing the area during construction.
The city is always willing to meet with citizens and business owners to discuss current and upcoming projects. I'm
headed to Rwanda on Friday 7/29/2011 and won't be back in the office until Tuesday 8/16/2011. I do have some
availability on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning of this week to meet and discuss the project.
Let me know if either of those times work. If not, you can try to meet with Keith Marvin while I'm out of the office
or we can meet when I return.
Let me know.
Thanks, Ken Griffin

Ken-- In our recent conversation when I was doing the story on the road work schedule for the old downtown, you

and I talked about whether some of groups in old town could give input on things such as creative construction
signage, placement of signs, and other positive ideas for the construction process. Wanted to let you know that
the groups have gotten together to talk about ideas and have selected persons for a task force, with a few
representatives from each group (business group, landowners, farmers market, chamber, historical society). We
look forward to hearing when we can meet. We have committed to making this a positive experience for all
parties and have a number of ideas.
As you and I talked about, the group would like to ask if you could include dollars in the construction contract for
things such as creative signage, marketing of the area during a time that will be hard for businesses and the
farmers market, and special City and other events to attract people during construction and make it a learning
experience. Let us know about this.
I will send this in letter form also.
Thanks, Ken
Jean Murph
