It has come to my attention that there is a minor problem in the
structure of the bridge referenced above. Street Foreman Per Birdsall
discovered a potential problem in one of the pier caps during inspection
of the bridges throughout the City. The pier cap which is the second
bent from the west has an eroded area on the west side of the cap.
It involves several square feet and reinforcement steel is exposed.
Per Birdsall has met with Mike Sharp of Dallas County Road & Bridge
District 1 to review the situation. Mr. Sharp did not feel it was
a critical problem but load posting could be in order after analysis
by Engineering staff. The bridge is scheduled for replacement when
Beltline Road is completed which according to John Karlsruher of Ginn,
Inc. should be in 3-4 years.
