ST9304-CS 881013 (2)October 13, 1988 MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: SUBJECT: RE: Steve Goram, Public Works Director Russell R. Doyl~.E., City Engineer East Beltline Bridge @ Denton Creek Your Memo Dated September 13, 1988 In response to subject memo (sorry for the delay in response), please note that on Monday, October 10, 1988, I observed a spalded or deteriorated section out of the cap of the first bent from the abutment on the west, with steel exposed. I would suggest at least remedial work be done to secure this section and preclude further deterioration. Is Mr. Mike Sharp an engineer? (structural?) If he is, I would accept his recommendation. I assume this roadway is maintained by the City of Coppell. If Sharp is not a structural engineer, I recommend that you request one through District #1 to inspect the site and structure. If that is not possible, then we will have to investigate other measures. Please note that the first bent from the east abutment has pervasive erosion existing around the columns. It appears that the rock and debris around the northerly column is someones effort to stabilyze that erosion. There is no slope protection on the east side like on the west side, although much of the subgrade has eroded out from under the west concrete slope protection. A railing joint on the north side has separated and one of its anchor bolts have failed. The pavement over the westerly abutment could use some maintenance. That spawled bent cap should be watched more frequent. What is the frequency of bridge inspections? Is it with our own personnel alone, or with others? Is there an inventory available for reference? If so, please give me a copy. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks. RRD/lsg xc: Shohre Daneshmand, Civil Engineer BELTLINE.BRG
