One question; do you know who will be responsible for paying the electrical charge for the street
lights/tree well lighting? I assume they are one in the same. If the city is to pick up the bill for both, I
agree that the electricity for the tree well lights should be separately metered from the pavilion/park
amenities and that the irrigation meter for the park should be included on the pavilion meter.
The power in the islands should be as you describe. All that is required is 120V receptacles in
weatherproof boxes for the Farmers Market. I believe it best to have manual control of the parking lot
island receptacles. If it is not feasible to have only one control for all islands, we can look at the best
places to locate multiple on/off contactors.

I have a couple of questions to pass along to you from our electrical engineer, David Beckman, on the
Old Town project. He is working on the street light design and had some questions that Keith felt like
needed to be sent in your direction. I appreciate your help with these questions that have to do with how
you want the meter arrangement for the pavilion, irrigation controllers and tree well receptacles:
* FNI suggests one meter for the tree well lighting and a separate meter for the pavilion and park-
related electrical devices. Any irrigation controllers for the park area should be powered from the pavilion
electrical system. Street lights within the park are will be powered along with all the other street lights on
the project, not the park meter. By meter, we are referring to the meter/panel board/electrical system.
Please verify if you agree with this plan.
* I believe that FNI has been directed to allow for power in the islands of the Farmer's Market parking
area. We will plan on having 2" conduit installed under the pavement from each grass island to the park
area. This is assuming that the electrical needs are just 120V receptacles in weatherproof boxes and
nothing more elaborate. Please confirm that this is the correct assumption.
* How does the city want to control the tree well receptacles? To allow for more flexibility, it would
probably be best to have on/off capability versus a photocell/contactor that would only be appropriate for
tree lighting. For a flexible design, we'd suggest using a split-bus panel where a city employee can
manually switch a breaker that either turns the circuits 'off' or 'on'. Given that the tree wells are so spread
out, we will probably need multiple small transformers/panels to keep voltage drop in check. Do you want
one single point to control all of the tree well outlets?
