FOR CHEM-PRUF FIBERGLASS DOORS AND FRAMES
08 100 - FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC DOORS AND FRAMES
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE - This section appIies to flberglass reinforced plastic {FRP) doors, frames, and
transoms as manufactured by CHEM-PRUF~00R COMPANY, BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS
(1-800-444-6924).
1.2 SUBMITTALS - Shop drawings shall provide pertinent dimensions, hardware locations,
transom and lite sizes, louver locaLions and dimensions. and door elevations. Mortises
for hardware must be molded in at the factory as the door is built. Mortises shall not
be routed or cut out of the stile structure or the jambs.
1.3 PRODUCT HANDLING o All materials shall be delivered to the site in sealed. undamaged
containers fully identified with the manufacturer's name. project number, the tag
location, the door type, color and weight. The doors and flames must be. shipped in wood
crates with wood perimeters. Store materials in original caztons, on ddge in such a way
to prevent falling or damage to face, comers and edges.
PRODUCTS
DOORS - Door shall be made of flberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) using resins tailored
to a specific corrosive envtronment (stated by the purchaser at the time the order is
placed) and have a fiberglass content of 25% by weight. The doors shall be flush
construction. having no seams or cracks. All mortises shall be molded in at the factory.
The doors shall be 1-3/4" thick with a 15 mil (plus or minus 3 mils) color gelcoat and
have an R-factor of 12. Secondary painting over pultrusions to achieve color is not
acceptable.
STILF_~ AND RAILS - Shall be constructed starting from the outside toward the inside,
of a 15-20 rail gel coat of the color specified followed by a matrix of at least three layers
of 1.5 ounce per square foot offiberglass mat. The stile and rail shall be molded in one
continuous piece to a U-shaped configuration and to the exact dimensions of the door
(patented). In this manner there will be no miter joints or disparate materials used to
form the one-piece stile and rail. Pultrusions will not be acceptable for stiles and rails
as (1) the color gel coat is not an integral part of the structure (it must of necessity be
applied as a paint when the structure is assembled), and (2) mortises must be cut into
the pultrusions. thus weakening the pultrusions by removing as much as two-thirds of
its thickness and (3) the practice ofmiteredj oints in pultrusions leaves access areas for
penetration of contaminants to the inside of the door.
DOOR PLATES o Shall be molded in o/~e continuous piece, starting with a 15-20 rail gel
coat'of the color speckfled, integrally molded with at least two layers of 1.5 ounce per
square foot fiberglass mat and layer of 16 ounce per square yard unidirectional glass
roving.
REINFORCEMENT - Adequate reinforcing and compression members shall be used to
accommodate surface hinges, closers, locksets, kickplates, push or pull plates. When
engineering considerations dictate, mild steel is buried in the ~berglass matrix to
provide enhanced screw holding power. In no case should screws be used into flberglass
matr~ to provide holding for hinges. locks or closers or any structured attachment.
Thrubolting is recommended for attachment of hinges, and closers in as much as the
strength of thruboltmg is five to six times as great as edge attaching with screws. When
thruboltmg is to occur, a compression member is to be located which will provide
memory and resistance to the torquing of thrubolts.
All voids between the door plates shall be completely f~led with the equivalent of
pounds expanded polyurethane foam, having a flame spread of 25 or less perASTM E-
84. A phenolic-coated kraft honeycomb may be substituted for urethane foam where
engineering requirements dictate.

FLAME SPREAD - Ah 'reinforcing resins shall contain a halogenated additive or co-
reactant plus Antimony Trioxide to achieve a flame spread of 25 or less per ASTM
E-84 and shall be self-extinguishing per ASTM D-635.
EXCEPTION: USDAAND FDA standards require special resin formulas for food contact.
State in the door schedule ff FDA standards must be met.
WINDOW LITE8 - All wLadvw opcah'~gs and iouvcr opcning3 in thc door cchedulc
should bc moldcd intcgralIy with both door platca so that no moi~,turc may
iDenetrate the door cavity through the v, indow Iitc 3tructurc (patchted). Window litco

Cutting .a window opening in the door and the use of either pultruded shapes for
window ledges or the use of externally applied picture frames appliqued to retain the
glass are unacceptable where sanitation and cleanliness are desired.
COLOR: .~~. of the door or frame shall be integrally molded as the part is
made.
NOTE: In most cases, the color can be provided to meet the desires of the client.
White and grey are standard colors, but almost 'all colors can be matched.
The deposit of 15-20 mils of gel coat is the equivalent of 50 to 60 coats of pat
applied by spray.
In areas of severe exposure to the sun, the color white is recommended because of
its high refractive indes. This leads to enhanced color life. and lower temperature
differential between inner and outer door faces due to heat absorption.
FRAMES - Frames shall be similar to the doors in construction and materials except
the frames shall be soIidftberglass. The stop and frame will be molded all in one
piece. The frame shall be integrally gelcoated to the customer's color when molded.
MortiSes will be molded in. It is not permitted to rout in mortises or remove any
material from the head or jambs, to provide mortises.
Reinfc~rcement for mounting hinges, closers. etc.. shall be of mild steel plates
strategically located and buried in the resin-glass matt-De so they will not be exposed
to the elements.
The jamb shall be fiat on the backside (against the opening) and uniform in
thickness so as to provide a solid, uniform surface against the wall opening. No
wood blocks or spacers are permitted.
LOUVERS - Louvers shall be identical to the doors in construction and materials.
The fins shall be solid fiberglass. [Patented)
TRANSOMS - All transoms shall be identical to the doors in construction. materials,
thickness, and reinforcement. .,
HARDWARE - ALl hardware where applicable (locksets, hinges'. closets, etc.) shall be
installed at the door manufacturing plant. The hardware rnanufacturer's warranty
shall be included with the hardware installation. Chem-Pruf sbaII not be responsible
for improper installation of hardware which is installed by others.
INSTALLATION -
Installation sh~lI be in strict compliance with manufacturer's written instructions
using non-corrosive materials and methods.
GUARANTEE -
Chem-Pruf Door Company shall unconditionally guarantee its registered doors for
TEN years against failure due to corrosion from the specific environment named at
the time of purchase. See written guarantee.
NOTE: TO SPECIFIER OR PURCHASER
This specification relates to Chem-Pruf Doors only. Incorporated in this specification
are four U.S. patents. Since the patents are of such importance to the performance
of the end product. there carmot be an "OR EQUAL" when this specification governs.

radio controls are available. '
· GUIDF..S Guides of structural steel angle or
roll-formed design ensure smooth curtain
operation. As an option, guide weatherstripping
is available.
· BO'i'rOM BAR The bottom bar is a
reinforcing member that strengthens the curtain.
As an option, it can be weatherstripped. On
motor-operated doors, a sensing edge is also
recommended.
· CURTAIN The curtain consists of
interlocking slats of curved or flat design, with
endlocks to maintain alignment and windlocks
as required to meet specified windloads.
~'SUPPORT BRACKE'TS Steel plate brackets
support the curtain and counterbalance on
sealed, self-aligning ball bearings. A stiffening
steel fib on the bracket adds extra strength and
supports the hood.
· HOOD The hood shields the coiled curtain
and counterbalance assembly against dust and
premature wear of system parts. There are
stiffening ribs at the top and bottom, with
intermediate supports as required. As an added
option, an internal hood baffle weatherstrip may
be specified.

Installation
Model DC6L Double Check Backflow Preventers should be
installed with adequate clearance and easy accessibility for
testing and maintenance and must by protected from freezing.
The assembly may be installed horizontally or vertically with
flow up. Refer to local codes for specific installation require-
ments, Some codes may prohibit vertical installation. Thermal
water expansion and/or water hammer down stream of the
back'flow proventar can cause excessive pressure. Excessive
pressure situations should be eliminated to avoid possible
damage to the system and assembly.

The CLA-VAL Model DC6L Double Check Valve Assembly is a
reliable means of backflow protection for non-toxic service. The
assembly is carefully constructed of corrosion resisting materials.
It consists of one body containing two independently acting
spring-loaded check valves, two ball valves and four test cocks.
Field testing is easily performed by means of the test cocks
provided for this purpose.
The Y-type check valves are uniquely designed to provide drip-
tight closure against reverse flow, and low pressure drop at
maximum capacity. The spring-loaded check-valves cause the
valve to seal against an inlet pressure higher than the outlet
pressure when there is no flow.
Typical Applications
Double Check assemblies are used to prevent backflow of
pollutants that are objectionable but not toxic. Double
checks may be installed under continuous pressure service
and may be subjected to back pressure. Double Checks
can be used in sprinkler irrigation systems, fire protection
without chemical additives, protection of industrial plants,
industrial in-plant plumbing systems and other systems
requiring protection. Local codes may vary. Consult author-
ities for specific approved applications.
