Beltline Road City of Coppell Gentlemen: In response to our meeting January 3, 1989, we do not feel that the cracks that have appeared at right of centerline stations 25+90, 30+35 and 35+00 are a result of inferior materials or workmanship, but are a result of the high P.I. and expansive clays that are found in that area. We will, however, under the terms of Division I, Section 01010, Paragraph 1.13C of the specifications, remove the concrete pavement, cement treated subgrade, test and remove the clay backfill, remove the reinforced concrete pipe, and test and remove the cement treated base material that is under the pipe. Should these tests prove to be generally within the parameters of the specifications, we would expect the owner to pay for this re-examination. Prior to making any removals, we request that you furnish us with a detailed sequence of steps for us to follow in order to properly analyze this situation.
