Re: Grapevine Cre~k Sewer Project (City of Grapevine T2)
Dear Mr. Griffin:
Thank you for your letter response to Mark Denton's telephone information request. The
Department of Antiquities Protection (DAP) would have preferred to have heard about the City of
Coppell's sewer line project prior to it's construction and we hope that in the future we can all
work together to mutually review such construction projects prior to site development. We usually
do not object to an area such as this being developed, but the fact that some prehistoric sites have
been recorded within a few kilometers of this proposed site and its proximity to a creek drainage
produce a high probability that such property could contain prehistoric archeological deposits.
Therefore, in the future please notify this office prior to any such developments so that we can
review the proposed project and help you avoid adverse impacts to any significant archeological
deposits.
With regard to the topic of project boundaries and Antiquities Code jurisdiction. Any public
easement such as a sewer line right-of-way are by law public utility easements under the control of
a political subdivision of the state and are covered under the jurisdiction of the Antiquities Code.
Therefore, the City of Coppell would be responsible for potential adverse impacts to caltural
resources w~.t.~Sn '.'t's ease..mept~, and .v°ur .... offi,'~'. ~...~4v-,,,lr~. ................ ,l~n ~otify DAP ~f thr~c.~ ?rojects.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact Mark
Denton, project reviewer, of our staff at (512) 463-~711.
Sincerely yours,
