SS9301-CS 930111 MEMO To: Jim Ragsdill, Purchasing Agent From: Kenneth M. Griffin, P.E., City Engineer ~ RE: Geotehnical Testing on the Grapevine Creek Sewer Trunk Main Branches I and H Date: January 11, 1993 As you may be aware, the City of Coppell recently awarded a construction contract in excess of $2.8 million to Kenco, Inc. for the construction of the Grapevine Creek Sewer Trunk Main Branches I and II. The City of Coppell Engineering Department will be taking over the responsibility for the inspection of this project. Along with that inspection, will be the testing requirements for the backfill and any other testing required on the project. It is estimated that the total overall cost, over the duration of the project, for testing could be in the range of $40,000 to $50,000. At this time, it is virtually impossible to determine the number of individual tests that would be required on this project. Also, each individual test would be more in the range of several hundred dollars. Again, the aggregate total for all the testing, over the duration of the project (approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years), will be in the $40,000 to $50,000 range. At this point, I need an opinion as to whether or not the City should bid the testing. If it is your opinion that the City does need to bid the testing, then I will need some help in trying to formulate the specifications to go out to bid. It is anticipated that the contractor will start this project in early February. Your assistance in a timely response would be greatly appreciated. cc: Frank Trando Steve Goram
