BAKER. SHIFLETT, /nc. ~Engineers ~ Geotechnical, GeoEnvironmental, Engineering Geology, Construction Materials Coppell Independent School District 1201 Wrangler Drive Coppell, Texas 75019 Attn: Ms. Vonita White Superintendent MaY 12, 1989 Project No. 892488 © "rl¥ 'HAY 16 1989 Re: Parkway Boulevard and High School Access Road Coppell, Texas Gentlemen: As requested, samples of the subgrade soils were obtained from Parkway Boulevard and the High School Access Road on April 28, 1989. A pH and Atterberg Lime Series was performed to determine the quantity of lime required to reduce the plasticity index of the soil. Four soil samples were obtained from the locations indicated on the attached test results. The samples were selected to represent the exposed soil types within the subgrade. The two (2) samples exhibiting the greatest plasticity were subjected to a pH and Atterberg Lime Series. The tests indicate that approximately five (5) percent hydrated lime as determined by the dry unit weight of the soil will be required to reduce the plasticity index. This will result in an addition of approximately 23 pounds of lime per square yard mixed to a depth of six (6) inches. The "Summary of Results" is attached. The placement of the lime, and mixing and compaction of the soil-lime mixture should be performed in accordance the the Texas Highways and Public Transportation Standard Specifications (1982), Item 260, with the exception of Item 260.4(3). Item 260.4(3) discusses gradation requirements of the mixed and blended soil-lime mixture. This item indicates that a minimum of 85% pass a 3/4-inch sieve, however, it is preferred to use the 1972 requirement of 60% passing a No. 4 sieve. 5450 Easl Loop 820 South P.O.
