Water & Se~er PVC Pipe - Reaction to Sunlight
(UV Radiation) - Response to Pipe in~ - Tickler 8/3
The date was checked on th±s particular load of pipe to find that it was manu-
factured in January 1988. Due to the .~age of t~is pipe, I feel there would be
no problem in using it.
Also, after speaking with an ex-J. M. pipe salesman, I hav~ come to the conclusion
that if PVC pipe is exposed to UV Radiation for long periods of time (excess
of 1 year) and it is laid in the ground faded side up, there is a 70% chance
of that pipe fraying and cracking when it is tapped. The way to solve this problem
is to lay the pipe faded side down, that way the tap is never made in the exposed
side of the pipe.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please advise.
