ST8501-CS 871009MEMORANDUM October 9, 1987 TO: FROM: RE: Steve Goram, Director of Public Works Per Birdsall, Street Foreman Stolen Bridge Railing / Freeport Upon inspection of barricades placed on the bridge on Freeport due to the previous reported theft of the bridge railing, it was noted and reported to Police Dept. that several of the rail standards are now missing also. Additionally, it was noticed that several other standards had been oiled to ease in their eventual removal. TwO other standards were completely unbolted which I removed and brought back to our facility. Several of the barricades had been thrown into the channel (not necessarily connected to the theft) and were retrieved and reerected by Brent and myself. I understand that the theft has been given to CID but further theft should be thwarted by removing the remaining components of the railing to stop any further loss. When replacement of the railing ~ takes place I recommend that the railing not only be bolted in place, but welded (special type of welding required - Heli-arc). PHB/bb
