Weekly Status Report on Denton Tap Road Projects
9/27/89, Wednesday (530-8L°, 90% humidity) - cool, olear
North Project
Brooks-Maltby, Inc. - 3 men, 1 backhoe - Installing PVC sweeps
and pull boxes in median island 177+52.85 to 171+53.92.
Note: Called Bruce Naghavi (Arjang Electric) at 10:00 AM.
Discussed timing for the Parkway Blvd. - Denton Tap Road Traffic
Signals. Appears to be a possible malfunction on the southbound
lane timing. Observation during 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM peak flows
allowed only 11 seconds for single lane of southbound traffic,
instead of the 65 seconds originally programmed.
City of Dallas Water Utilities - 8 men, 1 backhoe, 1 bobcat -
Completed the offset 30" PCCP water main section and installed
and blocked the north end test plug.
L. H. Lacy Co. - No direct work. Discussed with Scott Balch,
P.E. (L. H. Lacy Co.) the sensitivity of the Parkway Blvd. -
Denton Tap Road intersection opening prior to Coppell I.S.D.
Homecoming scheduled for 9/29/89. Intersection will need to be
complete and functioning as designed.
South Project

for 9/29/89 (Friday) with Scott Balch and Greg Morrison i.e.,
barricades, advanced warning signs and proposed concrete barriers
across east 1/2 Grapevine Creek Bridge. Contractor plans on 3
lanes of northbound lane traffic channeling into 1 lane across
east bridge.
9/28/89, Thursday (530-83°, 84% humidity) - cool, clear, sunny
North Project
7:30 AM - 8:30 AM Met Bruce Naghavi with Arjang Electric
(Traffic Signal Contractor) at Parkway Blvd. - Denton Tap Road
intersection. Observed traffic flows for southbound traffic on
Denton Tap Road and discovered that the controller had recalled
back to the minimum time of approximately 11 seconds (4 - 5
cars). Troubleshooting the controller led the Contractor to
believe there might have been a loss of power, thus creating a
minimal recall. Reset the timing and departed at 8:30 AM. This
was the 3rd time that power was lost since traffic signal
installation. Will notify Tim Brancheau with Texas Utilities on
power problems.
Lectric Safety Lites - Marvin, 2 men - Installed white traffic
buttons along 4" white stripe from Parkway Blvd. to Denton Creek.
Installing left turn lane buttons at Parkway Blvd. - Denton Tap
intersection.
City of Dallas Water Utilities - 8 men, same equipment - Testing

11:30 AM - Moisture/Density tests taken at Braewood/Denton Tap
southeast radius fillet and southeast radius fillet on Bethel
School Rd./Denton Tap. Proctor #18 dry density 109.0 at 17.5%
optimum moisture. Proctor 922 dry density 119.4 at 12.3 optimum
moisture. Southeast fillet Braewood - 103.5% dry density at 9.0%
moisture = 94.96% compaction. Southeast fillet Bethel School -
108.2% dry density at 9.6% moisture = 90.6% compaction.
Southeast fillet Bethel School - 110.5% dry density at 16.2%
moisture = 92.5%. Note: Ail tests failed to meet specifications
on moisture and compaction.
Eagle Construction Co. - Scheduled to pour radius fillets
monitored above, at 11:30 AM. Contractor informed of outcome on
tests and canceled concrete pour. Pulled off project until L. H.
Lacy Co. can re-work subgrade according to the specification
requirements.
Jim Bowman Const. - James Long, 6 men - Installing rail forms for
north 1/2 east bridge east outside rail. Inspected sections in
place. Start pour at approximately 4:50 PM on the south column -

lane traffic across east bridge from Bethel Road to Meadow Creek
Drive. 2 flagmen used - Informed Scott Balch at 4:15 PM what his
subcontractor was planning on doing and to provide additional
manpower for traffic control, due to being in peak traffic flows
at 5:00 PM. Poured northeast 1/2 of east bridge - east outside
rail with plasticizer.
Lectric Safety Lites - James Powell, Marvin and 3 men -

the low areas left of centerline Sta. 113+00 among the trees.
Called Steve Parsons and informed him about not properly
disposing the construction debris from his property and possible
code violation. L. H. Lacy Co. brought in concrete barriers to
place across east bridge during rail construction and
accommodation of traffic switch scheduled for 9/29/89.
