FLOOD OBSTRUCTIONS
Due to our conversation yesterday, I will continue pursuit of getting
assistance in removing the obstructions from Denton Creek,-just north of
S.H. 121.
While visiting FEMA Monday morning, I had received notice from Dale
Jackson on this situation and upon returning to Town Center, Linda
Yaronich and I discussed the situation.
On Tuesday, I visited the site and I pursued a couple of calls for
assistance to Mr. Willie Holder, and notified the Corps of Engineers, as
Dale Jackson did on Monday.
The Corps had the Dallas County Fire Marshal call me and they referred me
to the Dallas County Public Works Department for possible assistance. I
was pursuing that contact for possible assistance to remove the
obstructions from the Denton Creek Floodway, when I checked with you on
who should pursue the matter.
In the meantime, it was my understanding, from FEMA and the State Disaster
Field Office, that it is the local jurisdictions (i.e. the City of
Coppell's) responsibility to remove the obstructions from the floodway.
If we do that, we could possibly get reimbursed later for 75% of the cost,
and should keep good records and receipts. Mr. Willie Holder is doing
what he can "personally", but appears not to have the funding to restore
the floodway.
The last two paragraphs directly above are moot points, since I received
Staff's direction today. (See Attached).
