Dan,
Our standard minimum is the initial 8" and re-mixed to 6" at 6%. If the geotech report states we need 7%
then I would go with that. However the depth would still be 8" initial and re-mixed to 6". Our detail is
"general". I would like to point out that the report assumes an in-place unit weight of 100 pcf and it refers
to using portland cement stabilization with a 105 pcf unit weight. What is in our typical details are to be
used as a minimum and can not meet every situation exactly. Since we have a geotech report on this
project I would expect you to utilize their specifications unless our min. are more strict. You might want to
talk with Alpha to discuss exactly what they were recommending.
Thank You, George

George: Below is the general note from the typical sections. Not sure how they came up with the
40lbs/sy. Probably used 115 pcf and mixing to a depth of 8". The report says to mix 7% into 6" with a
dry weight of 105 pcf. If we mix 7% into 8" at 105 pcf we get 43 lbs per square yard. Let me know how
you would like to proceed?
3. SUBGRADE (MIN. REQUIREMENTS-UNLESS OTHERWISE
APPROVED BY CITY ENGINEER). SUBGRADE UNDER
ALL PAVEMENT SHALL BE INITIALLY MIXED 8" THICK
AND RE-MIXED 6" THICK AND SHALL BE STABILIZED WITH
6% MIN. BY WEIGHT OF HYDRATED LIME (GENERALLY
+_40 LBS./S.Y.) AND COMPACTED TO A DENSITY NOT
LESS THAN 95% STANDARD PROCTOR DENSITY. ALTERNATIVE
SUBGRADES, SUPPORTED BY LABORATORY TEST, MAY BE
SUBMITTED TO THE CITY ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL.
