The only think I can think of in the Standards is Section 4.3.4:   "4.3.4 Passing Space.  If an accessible route has less than 60 in (1525 mm) clear width, then passing spaces at least 60 in by 60 in (1525 mm by 1525 mm) shall be located at reasonable intervals not to exceed 200 ft (61 m).  A T-intersection of two corridors or walks is an acceptable passing place."   So, in this case, if either of the sidewalks are 4 foot wide sidewalks, or sidewalks less than 5 feet wide, then there must be T-intersections or 60" by 60" passing spaces (bump outs) not more than 200 feet apart.   Hope this answers your question.   Blair   Texas Access Serving the Greater Areas of: Dallas/Fort WorthHouston/GalvestonAustinSan Antonio Blair Baker (TDLR RAS #0019) 3415 Misty Meadow Dr.  |  Dallas, Texas 75287-6025 Toll Free Voice & eFax: 1+ (800) 880-6986  | Local: (972) 306-2800  | Cell: (214) 642-2559 eMail: BlairB@TexasAccess.com  |  Web: TexasAccess.com Board Member - Texas Registered Accessibility Specialists Association   From: George Marshall [mailto:gmarshall@coppelltx.gov] Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 2:06 PM To: blairb@texasaccess.com Subject: Crosswalk   Blair,   I have a strange question. A street in town is being reconstructed and we are adding sidewalk on both sides of the road. This road is over 3,000 feet and has over 8 T intersections. Typically I have not included a curb ramp on the top of the T but in this case it has raised a question. Is there a rule in TAS or ADA that tells me a distance or spacing of crosswalks? Any help on this situation is helpful. file://C:\Documents and Settings\radloo\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\4C56943BCity...10/28/2011 Page 2 of 2   Thank You, George     George Marshall, PE City of Coppell Engineering 972-304-3562 file://C:\Documents and Settings\radloo\Local Settings\Temp\XPgrpwise\4C56943BCity...10/28/2011
