Yes that price is correct. I’m checking with the other guys in the office to make sure there is not another way to
connect the two cabinets. Due to the tree canopy through the area, I do not think wireless communication is
an option.
The one concern I have is the secondary signal delay. For example, if a fire truck is traveling north on
Macarthur and makes a left turn on Samuel, the signal at Macarthur/Deforest will still go red for all
movements, but the northbound Macarthur. Once the opticom signal is released at Samuel, both intersections
would be released and would return to normal operation. The same problem would exist if the truck was SB on
Macarthur and turn right or left onto Deforest. All movements at the Macarthur/Samuel signal would go red
but the southbound directions. I’m not sure what the primary movement is for the trucks for this location or
how often the trucks use the opticom. If the trucks primary route through this area is north/south, it should be
fine that both signals go red in all directions but the direction of the fire trucks. The citizens can “see” the
emergency vehicle. But if the fire trucks primarily make turning movements, I would not be surprised if you
receive citizen calls complaining. Because the citizens didn‘t “see” the fire trucks come through, they will ask
“Why did the signal just stop working?” Does that make sense? Tying the signals together may be the best
option for emergency services, but I wanted to raise your awareness of a potential side effect.

Is that aprox. $4,284 more? At $3 per foot. Unless you know of a way to trigger both lights green for N/S
traffic? Thank You, George

George,
I have added the extra cables. FYI - the total opticom cable quantity changes from 482’ to 1910’ feet.

Kim,
Can you please add an additional pair of opticom cables between the TS cabinets at Deforest & Samuel. This is
so one will trigger the other. Per the Fire Department's request.
Thank You, George
