Kent Collins, assistant town manager, said Flower Mound Road from Vanderbilt Drive to Old Settlers Road will open Tuesday, freeing up some traffic that has resulted from a reconstruction project on Flower Mound Road . The $2.4 million project, which is funded by street maintenance dedicated sales tax money, features reconstruction from Old Settlers Road to about 300 feet west of Long Prairie Road. The project is aimed to replace the aging pavement on the road, as well as improve site distance and grade issues. The realignment at the intersection of Stanford Drive will improve sight lines and safety and will provide additional storage lengths of turn lanes. "That area is a roller coaster ride, to say the least," Collins said. The project began in August, and it's expected to be complete by July. 1 Crews began the project with reconstruction of the north side of the road (westbound) lanes first, shifting traffic to the southern two lanes. Because of that, a bottleneck was created just west of Old Settlers Road . But Collins said Tuesday's opening will help. "This will significantly improve traffic at that intersection," Collins said. Collins said the section opening will also allow the town to operate traffic signals eastbound and westbound on Flower Mound Road at the same time. Collins said because of the traffic problems the project has created, the town strived to reduce the length of time of the project. "Through discussions with the town staff and the contractors, they've gotten it down to a five -month project, so that's more than half the time that they took off of it," Collins said. "A lot of it had to do with phasing and traffic control. So we're way far ahead of our original schedule." Collins also credits TISEO Paving Company, which was awarded the project, for the quick process. "TISEO has been really good to work with," Collins said. "They brought all of their resources to the project to get it done as fast as they can. It's been pretty impressive to watch." TISEO is also the company that is working on the Morriss /Gerault Road Improvement Project, as well as the FM 407 TxDOT project. In a separate project, Flower Mound Road from Skillern Road to FM 1171 is being redone to turn a two -lane asphalt road into a four -lane concrete road. Also, two existing 90- degree curves will be softened on the road. For road construction updates, go to www. flower - mound.com /construct /construct info.php. 2
