Two Items In Need of Repair or Completion Across Coppell

Mr. Carpenter
1) The pothole on Belt Line had been previously patched, however the patch is failing. Today I asked my
Street Division to again repair the pothole and then monitor it for additional failures in the future. I also
asked them to schedule a removal and replacement with concrete to repair it permanently. Our approach on
lane closures on Belt Line is to try to schedule them when school is out because of the traffic patterns. The
permanent repair has been scheduled for the week of Thanksgiving.
2) The section of sidewalk on Denton Tap within the DART right-of-way was omitted from the sidewalk
project because DART would not grant the city a permit without restrictions that were unfavorable to the
city. The item that concerned the city was a requirement that we install pedestrian gates on the sidewalk
once DART begins operating on the rail. This assumes that the city is agreeable to an at-grade crossing
of the DART line with Denton Tap. The city has always maintained that it's our opinion that a grade
separated crossing should be considered when DART begins operation on the rail. We have a concern that if
we agree to their requirements now that we would give up our rights to object to the at-grade crossing in the
future. That being said, we still continue to work with DART on a permit that retains our ability to object in
the future. If both parties can agree, I already have funds available to construct the remainder of the
sidewalk.
Hopefully this has addressed your concerns, however please contact me if you have any additional
questions.
Thanks,

I would appreciate a follow-up response from either you or a member of your staff on my below request for repair or
completion.
1. A large pothole on Belt Line Road on the far right lane of the southbound side immediately in front of IBM's building
at 1177 South Beltline Road. This hole is already large and growing; it is now about 2 feet long by 1 feet high. It is
part of a larger hole that was already patched. When will this pothole be filled in?
2. I rode my bike several times this summer from my home to the IBM building by taking the new sidewalks along
Denton Tap. They are really nice. Thank you. However, I noticed that the sidewalks stop about 100 feet of the
railroad tracks on both sides. Was this deliberate? If not, when will the sidewalks be completed here? If this was
deliberate, why? I have not seen this done this way before.
