Maier Consulting Engineers Three Northpark 8800 N. Central Expressway, Suite 300 Dalias~ Texas 75231 ATTN: Mr. Michael J. Garrett Re: Construction Materials Testing Country Estates Bethel School Rd. and Harris St. Coppell, Texas Gentlemen: Submitted here are the results of testing and observation of construction materials at the referenced project. This report addresses the activities of July 30, 1992. On the above date, a representative of our firm visited the site to perform field moisture-density tests on the fill placed in the residential building pads. Upon arrival, it was noted that approximately three to five feet of fill had already been placed in Block A, Lots 5 through 13. Reed Engineering Group did not observe the removal of vegetation or test the natural subgrade prior to this fill placement. Density tests were taken in a test pit excavated by the contractor on Block A, Lot 5. Tests were performed through this fill to a depth of 2.0 feet. It is estimated that approximately 2.8 feet of fill had been placed in this lot. Test results are shown on Plate 1. We were unable to test the fill in Lots 6, 7 and 8 due to the presence of a stockpile of strippings on Lot 6 and the storage of utility supplies on Lots 7 and 8. Approximately four feet of fill was in place in the front half of Lot 9. No fill had been placed in the back half of this lot. Lot 10 requires approximately eight feet of fill to reach the final pad grade. Four feet of fill was already in place. A density test taken on the surface of this fill indicated a compaction level of about 85%. 2424 STUTZ DRIVE · SUITE400 · DALLAS, TEXAS75235 · 214/350-5600 · (FAX) 214/350-O019 H.T. Ardinger and Son, Company Project No. l153.1/Report No. 1 July 31, 1992 Page 2 Based on the grade stakes, as much as eleven feet of fill is required in the southwest and southeast corners of Lots 11 and 12, respectively. Approximately two feet of fill was in place. Tests were taken on the top layer of fill and two succeeding lifts. Compaction levels of this fill were found to be about 99%. Approximately six feet of fill is required in Lot 13. Four feet of fill was in place. The compaction of the surface layer of this fill was approximately 97%. Due to the large quantities of fill required to bring several of these lots to final grade, and the unknown condition of the previously placed fill, it is recommended that the fill be removed from the lots and replaced in density controlled lifts. Density tests should be performed on each 8-inch lift prior to placement of additional fill. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call. Sincerely, Ronald F. Reed, P.E.
