Griffin, P.E., TITLE: Director of Engineering & Public Works STAFF RECOMMENDS: Approval X Denial STAFF COMMENTS: The design of Fairway Drive is underway by the City's consultant, Huitt-Zollars, Inc. Pan of the design is coordination with the signal contractor for the Fort Worth and Western Railroad, Railroad Controls, Ltd. Railroad Controls, Ltd. is the only firm authorized to install the crossings along this railroad. To insure that we stay on the appropriate timeline, it is essential that the contract is approved at this time so that the materials can be ordered. There is a 3 to 5 month lag time for the receipt of materials for the gate arms and warning control circuits. Staff recommends approval of the contract with Railroad Control, Ltd. in the amount of $132,990.50 and will be available to answer any questions at the Council meeting. Bill Browns' comments on Railroad Controls, Ltd. specifications were 4 items which are all cost related. If they are not done then we will not pay. 1. Days on contract were somewhat excessive 2. Bid item for conduit/boring on installation of conduit. We specified open cut and when he questions them they couldn't show him where there was any boring. 3. Gate arm links will be OK, can be adjusted. 4. Huitt Zollars is going to send sketch of paving areas and median nose. Aubrey asked that we send a drainage area map of the apartment complex to Huitt- Zollars.
