Dear Mr. Snyder:
We have reviewed your letter of December 19, 1988 regarding the
proposed substitution of Pratt 16" Butterfly Valves in lieu of
the Waterous, Kennedy, or Engineer approved equal 16" Butterfly
Valves specified in the Contract Documents. The material
attached to your letter would indicate that you intend for this
to constitute a submittal of shop drawings. Please refer to
Section 01340 - SHOP DRAWINGS, PRODUCT DATA AND SAMPLES of the
Contract Documents for the requirements for submission of Shop
Drawings and Product Data. Upon receipt of this letter we ask
that you submit six (6) copies of the Shop Drawings for the
Valves that you propose to use on the project.
While your proposed substitution valve appears to meet most of
the specifications contained on pages 45 and 46 of Section 07500
of the Contract Documents, we point out that the valve seat
configuration and the disc materials are at variance with the
specifications. As such this proposed substitution valve would
not ordinarily be considered equal to that specified. In this
case, however, the valve installations are necessary for
isolation of. the water line only for the purpose of the planned
relocation and will not be used for normal operation of the water
line. In light of the above we approve the substitution of the
Pratt Butterfly Valves for those originally specified.
Due to the improper submission of Shop Drawings and Product Data
for these valves, L. H. Lacy Company shall have no claim for any
delays attributable to consideration or approval of this item.
